When you have the chance to honor a WWII veteran you’d better take it, because all too soon, they’ll be gone from us forever.
This 2012 video captures what happened at Gate 38 R Regan National Airport when a group of WWII vets disembarked from an Honor Flight.
The gate attendant made a brief announcement of the arrival of the vets. Then people began leaving their gates and headed to Gate 38. When the veterans disembarked they were met with applause and cheers. The entire airport seemed to stand at attention. According to the video maker, the applause lasted for 20 minutes.
True heroes getting a true heroes welcome.
What is not shown in this video are two firetrucks giving a water cannon salute to the plane as it taxied to the gate. That is a special honor, and one well deserved of these brave soldiers.
